As many tech companies are showing growing interest in chatbot hype, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba said that it is working on creating a rival to ChatGPT.

A company spokesperson said, “We are working on a ChatGPT-like technology and it is currently being tested internally.” With this statement Alibaba shares jumped by 3% in pre-market trade in the USA.

Tech firms worldwide are looking to join the chatbot hype created by ChatGPT, which is an AI-powered chatbot created by Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

ChatGPT comes in the category of generative AI. ChatGPT is powered by a large language model.

Alibaba said that it is working on generative Artificial Intelligence since 2017.

ChatGPT has created kind of AI arms race in the world’s biggest tech giants. Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google are front runners in this race. Google is in the testing phase of its AI-powered chatbot technology which is called Bard.

Alibaba spokesperson said, “As a technology leader, we will continue to invest in turning cutting-edge innovations into value-added applications for our customers as well as their end-users through cloud services.”
